Everyone does and it's been that way since I can remember. Not to mention everyone tells me that I look like a 'Missy' and not a 'Melissa'. I just assume it has to do with my humorous, spunky, and sometimes sassy personality.
I'm a photography graduate from Seattle, but until this year, I spent the past 10 years of my life building a marketing career at large companies and organizations all over the nation while moonlighting my craft on the side. I love marketing and will never stop learning about the art of a good marketing campaign, buuut at this wonderful age of what I like to call "thirty-tworiffic", I've decided that it's now or never for me to change paths and finish what I started over 10 years ago. So here I am…a little scared to be out on my own, but also very excited to be here.
My job is to tell the stories about people's lives through my work. I aim to capture the authentic moments of my clients, in real-life events enjoying life as it currently is . This means less posed shots and more candid moments of you just having fun and being you. I like to use natural light for the majority of my work, meaning I prefer to stay away from flash and love using mother nature and the movement of the sun to help illuminate my photos.
I'm married to an amazing man who always gives his 110% when it comes to taking care of us, keeps me grounded, and was my numero uno supporter when I made the big decision to finally get this show on the road. His name is James, but you can call him Jimmy. We are a nickname kind of couple and he is my BEST. FRIEND. We try to live a simple, happy and adventurous life with our fur baby, Suki the Lharkie #sukithelharkie (Lhasa Apso/Yorkie mix). On the weekly, you'll find us on our Saturday morning coffee date because I love talking about the future while getting charged up with caffeine. On the yearly, you'll find us at a beach vacationing because beach bumming is our thang.
I know I have a lot of life ahead of me, but I've already learned how lovely life is. My favorite saying is, "Collect moments, not things." -Aarti Khurana. If you read this saying and it makes perfect sense to you, then I'm your gal. I am constantly looking for the beauty in my life so I can collect those moments and I hope I get to do the same with you.
You shouldn't just have your picture taken, you should experience it. After going through a not-so-seamless professional photography experience of my own where I wasn’t provided helpful tips on how to dress, why shooting at certain times and types of locations is better than others and assistance with determining an overall look and feel for my session, I realized that clients want an informative experience just as much as they want amazing photos. I've created some key steps to my experience to ensure a smooth process and I do not offer anything less than that.
I also want all of my clients to walk away with photos that can become heirloom pieces in their household. I try to steer clear of the super trendy editing styles and keep my work clean, simple and classic.
Once you're officially official and your date has been secured, I immediately start working with you on a vision board for your session and getting to know you and your photo goals more through a client questionnaire. It's important to me to get to know you as much as I can before our session. I want to feel like we are old friends that go way back so you are comfortable with me and my camera out of the gate. These pieces also help me to make sure our session stays fun and moving along. I know how stressful and chaotic coordinating your wedding or a photo session can be so I'm hoping by creating this process it will help alleviate any recipe for disaster so we can focus on you looking your best, feeling your best and having a good time!
Once your session has taken place, I cull through all of the photos and provide you with a few sneak peeks within a couple days. My turnaround process for your final set of images is 2 weeks for portrait sessions and 4 weeks for weddings. I deliver your photos through a secure online gallery that allows you to download the photos directly to your computer, create a favorites list, share them with your friends and family or on social and (coming soon) order professional grade prints from my partnering print lab. -Ordering prints through my lab is optional, as you are provided with the printing rights to your digital photos from our session which gives you permission to print wherever you want, whenever you want up to 8x12 in size.
"My boyfriend and I had such a wonderful experience doing a photoshoot with Missy! She is such a great photographer and really helped us feel comfortable! She helped us find an excellent location and took some photos that were truly incredible. I have worked with other photographers in the past but none can compare. The thing I love about working with missy is the way she can capture the moment, and along the way she gave so many helpful tips for getting a great shot. For me it is always difficult to be comfortable in front of the camera but having someone there to help guide you makes it so much easier and also makes your photos look even better when you are relaxed and having fun!" [Taryn + Karl, New MP clients]
"I had so much fun during my senior photo session with Missy. She made me feel so comfortable and she was so open to ideas I had. I feel like she really captured who I am and I ended up with a lot of great photos I have been able to use for my annual, announcements, and graduation slide show. Missy was even able to get great shots with my boxer puppy, who was a challenge that day! All of my pictures feel like "me" and I couldn't be happier with the experience." [Hayden, 2016 High School Senior Grad]
"We are SO happy with our pictures - there are always so many good shots to choose from! We love your creative eye,for storytelling and that you're super easy to work with. It's no wonder you're our go-to photographer for all of our needs! And, we got tons of compliments on our Xmas card photos last year! " [Luu Family, MP clients since 2013]
"We want to scream from the mountain tops that the best decision we made for our wedding was hiring Missy as our photographer. She was easy to work with, personable, professional, and she blended in seamlessly with our family and guests. She used her incredible instincts to capture the real moments of our special day. We will be forever grateful. We would hire her again in a heartbeat! " [Beth + Becky, married Jan 2016]
